    yes there are many …
yes there are many documented cases like this.

for a woman to be a virgin, for many years all that was checked for was that her hymen was intact. the hymen is just a thin skin like membrane. it is porous, sperm can penetrate it, it is rare but it can happen.

did it happen in this case? i don’t know, i argue that it doesn’t matter, jesus’ divinity was man made… much like he was and not divine.

    yeah, that is …
yeah, that is pretty much what i mean. the story starts out one way and by the time it is made official it is something else.

they needed christ to be the son of god so they made him the son of god.

    I totally agree …
I totally agree with Jowind… and i fail to see what is mean about his statement…? It’s true. If beliefs aren’t challenged, the individual(s) who do follow the belief can become unable to distinguish between, belief and faith, and fact. This inability to distinguish between faith and reality can be dangerous. To repeat the words of Jowind, Learning happens only when one’s beliefs are challenged.

    many years? i dont …
many years? i dont know 60AD to 161AD if you look at the frist time that there sons telling the stories of there dads. now you look at the 160 you can say it was there great great grandson telling the stories. it like the game you did in school were some one tell you some thing and you passed it on and by the next time you hear it it’s way off. Lazarus was a sound sleeper.

    religion is …
religion is something most people have so they can wake up believe in life. rather than being a grouch and calling people dumb. just leave them alone and enjoy your own life.
wasn’t that the point of the song?
and for respect. it has to start somewhere. alot of people who believe in fairy tales understand where you come from and would just walk away. i wouldnt call you dumb. and i wouldnt call religious people dumb. i just thought jowind was being a meanie. smart, but still.

Yup. He was a thief …
Yup. He was a thief, and that’s probably one of the reasons why he was crucified.

    I’m going to have …
I’m going to have to disagree. Jowind is spot on, and I’m going to take it one step further by not respecting anyone’s religion. As far as people go, respect is earned. As far as religion goes, please. I enjoy a good story with an ethical stance, but to accept these fairy tales as reality is just plain dumb.

    you’re saying what …
you’re saying what im saying. just fancy and unyoutube like. (and then some. i understand your point- and thank you for not being a jackass.)

and you know, its not really about the birth of jesus but more of what he did after. i always thought of it as a hero story.. or am i getting it wrong?? :(

either way, back to the point. i just thought that your comment was too strong but im glad that you backed it up with a smart answer. and thanks for understanding me.
    :D

    You’re absolutely …
You’re absolutely right about respecting the choices that others make. But what if the choices that others make, derived from their beliefs, preclude others from the freedom to choose? The religious right justify oppressing freedoms to people, as expressed in the video, by banking on the the divinity of Jesus.

Beliefs are useless if they aren’t challenged. If they are off-limits to external influences, then they are static mindtraps. Learning happens only when one’s beliefs are challenged.

    A woman can get …
A woman can get pregnant without losing there virginity
1)Semen on the vagina can travel in
2)Joseph could have had a small dick

Seriously We’re talking about a period in time where people thought demons caused sickness and that the world could be walked off of and was on pillars or a pillow, whichever that book said.

    I …
    @Cornuaspersum

I heard a rumor that, because of the wording in one of the state anti-gay-marriage amendments that (for a time) marriage was illegal in Texas.

I know the amendment here in Michigan made all common-law straight marriages null.

    It boggles the mind.

    im just saying that …
im just saying that its mean. jeez. if a fool thinks he can fly then let him. its not my business as long as he’s not trying to rob me etc.

its a big difference to ridicule people for what they believe and to poke at what people do because of their beliefs.

besides, what if i made fun of you for what you believe. not a very nice feeling.

    honestly, i think …
honestly, i think it is more likely that the immaculate conception was made up many years later when the christian church was in its infancy to legitimize there claim to “salvation.”

    Would you have the …
Would you have the same kind of respect for someone who thought the earth was flat or that he could fly? Why are religious claims exempt from being ridiculed?

  19. By justapathy on Feb 16, 2010 | Reply

    @Jowind im not …
@Jowind im not religious, but man, thats a little too insulting.

no matter how ridiculous a religion can be, having that respect for the people who believe in it and leaving them be is what makes you the bigger person.

thats why zimmerman makes sense. he’s telling us about respect. respect for the couples who want to get married and that its not our business what they do in their lives.

so when people try to control these things, they get their butt kicked by roy.

    This is pretty off …
This is pretty off topic, but I’ve been thinking:

What’s more likely: Mother Mary was impregnated by the spirit of God in the Immaculate Conception, thereby producing the heir to the throne of God and Heaven’s representative of goodness on Earth, Jesus Christ…

    or

Some other dude had his way with Mary and she tried to cover it up by calling it divine intervention?

    Just a thought.

    So easily fixed!

    So easily fixed!
Registered partnership, answerable to the law with regards to the benefits and non-benefits of marriage as we know today, like the laws for inheritance, separation, tax-benefits etc. THEN anybody can perform whatever ritual they desire according to whatever god-myth they prefer.
Separation of church and state FTW!!!
    p.s.
Keep creationism out of the science class.
    It belongs in religious studies.
