I haven't read the book in a while but I believe that Huck despised his father Pap very much. Pap would come in and out of Huck's life and the times he did come back, it was only for money. Huck escaped in hopes of escaping this roller coaster relatioship that he had with his father. If they lived in a contemporary society, I don't think that their situation would be any different.

Huck is successful in preventing his father from acquiring his fortune however, Huck's father gains custody of him by kidnapping him and they move into the back woods. He escapes from his father and fakes his own death and he goes down the Mississippi River.

Pap was an abusive alcoholic who was known to be a gambler. He'd left Huck at an early age. Figure the rest out on your own.

In the book Huckleberry Finn, Describe Huck’s relationship with his father. Describe their family situation.
Describe Huck’s family situation. Discuss the relationship between Huck and his father “Pap.” How did that relationship influence Huck’s decision to escape and begin his river adventure?

… also.. another important question to ask.. Describe Huck and Pap if they lived in contemporary society. What would their situation be like?
